Car Failed MOT on my headlight bulbs.

  1. #1
Just had MOT on my car.

    IT failed.

Reason: Front headlight (Blue) Colour mismatch.

which i dont understand because they r daylight white headlights, both exactly the same and also they r the same bulbs i had for the last MOT.

does any1 know if the VOSA has changed the whole lighting thing? i know there was a think about HID's that were going to change but these arnt even HID's they r xenon bulbs i got.

On the box they are E marked and it says Road Legal...

now i got my fuckin mother bitching at me saying i got blue lights coz the fuckin MOT sheet says so lol... eventho she looks at my lights and they arnt even blue. XD.....

change the bulb and man up tbh. And lol at your MOT tester. I had a dim rear brake bulb 2 years ago, they changed it and passed the car.

i was typing quick and decided not to type "are"

yeah i will but i dont understand why they passed last year and now failed.

bulbs do fail sometimes. Like I said, I had a dim one that was barely 6 months old. You can actually get some damage when going over bumps and holes with your lights on. Then the MOT guy has measuring tools to measure the bulb brightness and colour.

what I don't get is why they didn't change the bulbs and moved on.

well i have now, but i was just curious if there have been any changes causing them to pass the first time and then fail a year later.

Read above.. Can be anything, could even be you leaving a tiny bit of finger print if you touched them. Bulbs wear out, the rate at which they wear out is about the same as the age of the captain divided by how long is a piece of string. Could be a defect, could be your previous MOT center not detecting the fault in the first place, etc...

    Different tester?

Can't believe they failed you because of a bulb. I've had all sorts go wrong on my cars and the testers just fix it there and send me on my way. Much less hassle for both parties and everything gets sorted.

Nah exactly the same tester, i have to go and ask him about it.

Usually if anything like that is wrong he fixes and passes it for me but not sure why this time. I think the garage got new owners so perhaps they have clamped down hard on the MOT's.

Maybe, we will see anyway, i'll go and ask him when he gets home from work.

same opinion here, a bulb costs sod all and takes seconds to change.

Yes i agree, i have a spare set in my car incase i have a bulb out.

But like i said in a previous post im curious as to why it passed with them last year and failed with them this year.

You are complaining because your Saxo failed on a bulb?

Just change them to normal ones, re-mot and swap them back after

Think yourself lucky that it didn't fail on anything more serious or you may have topped yourself!

    yes i know.

Some reason it failing on something so simple as bulb really pissed me off

it will be sorted soon as i eat my dinner haha xD

ask your MOT tester, he most likely had an excellent reason to pass the first time and fail the second. And always change your bulbs in pairs or you'll fail again as they still will be mismatched

I will indeed. It will be interesting to know.

I also gotta pay him for the MOT ^^

I`ve just read the post & thought it`s failed then read again & thought is that all bloody hell there`s a million worse things it could`ve failed on.

so you had a spare set of bulbs in your car, it failed MOT on bulbs, and you didnt give the tester your spare set to put in there and then and pass the test?

I wasnt there when he tested it.

The tester i know lives in my street so we leave the keys with him and he takes it for the MOT (dodgy i know)

i would have assumed he would have changed the bulbs (he usually does if something like that goes wrong) but this time he didnt.

You've said that 3-4 times already. Change bulbs, retest, move on. Not a big deal at all tbh.
  20. #20
swap bulbs over for 10 mins while he does a retest and and put your white ones back in no big deal i bet most people wish this was there only problem when it comes to a mot
  21. #21
its all done, just gotta sort out the retest ^^

if the sidelight doesn't give a clear beam

i.e it give a slightly bue tint to the light then it will fail
