What exactly is the 2.2 µF capacitor for? Never known one to be an earth,

I believe it`s to stop radio interference.

I did the same on my last saxo and just left it off, the car drove fine for the year I had it.

what was the radio like? did you earth it out at all??

you can buy different ones that wire in directly behind the stereo or bolts on to the alternator.. same thing.. stops interference.... most audio shops sell them even halfords...
