Gear linkages, Bushes on the push rod, mechanism on gear box or the plate that is fixed to the bulk head which the linkages attach too.

Could be any of the above. If you jack the car up and look underneath, give everything a wobble and see where the play is

change the roll pin first. 99% of the time its the roll pin and its only 80p to replace.

I changed the roll pin, the old one was a solid pin and the new one is the roll pin type...I tapped it in as far as possible, so the thin end of the pin protruded out the other side, and there is about 2mm of the fat end that I didn't tap through so it is pretty centrally in, and although its solved some of the play, the brass looking thing that the green arrow ends on(which the pin goes through) when im in 2nd,4th,rvrse and wobble the gear stick this part moves away and toward the gearbox vertically(if we say the roll pin goes through horizontally) its not at an angle its just vertically up and down when wobbling, what causes this and how can I fix it?

    This is what I mean:

Only appears to happen in the bottom gears...its not much in the car its second tightest gearstick ive seen out of about 10 saxos, but if I could solve it then fair enough...the tightest gearchange I saw on one I went to look at, was an x or w plate I think, but had no play at all, the rest of the car was rough as fuck though lmao.
