Rear end write off?

  1. #1
Okay guys, some of you on your way to trax may have past me on your way in if you were early(ish)

I was crashed into - just sat at the round about near the 'on the run' garage, (silver saxo - 3 car pile up inc a red mk3 (iirc) and a new fiesta zetec (black)
I was at no fault and all 3 of us in the car are claiming for whiplash - especially as 4 days after my neck and shoulder is f'ing painfull poor lad in the back is having days off work as he is a carpinter, i am also pretty slow in the workshop due to this stupid pain - more of an annoyance than anything else. But heaps of ibuprofen is helping!

Id estimate initaial slam to be at 30 - 40 mph due to the 2 foot that the golf lost on the rear, and the distance my car was fired forward and the impact, tbf golf was real close to me. like inches close.

the rear end is all crumpled, has made the paint get this wierd circular crack effect in it, dented some panels of the boot lid and crumpled the body (where the boot catch is on the body itself) and the floor of the boot is all crumpled and pretty distorted - its really quite fucked, it even broke the lock. Lights are all out of place now and has quite frankly made a mess of the car.

Now due to the age of the car (T reg) and this type of damage, am i correct in assuming that in the eyes of insurance it wont be worth fixing? In my eyes it will need the rear part of the body cut out and replaced, not the best idea on a saxo? and this will also lose value when i come to sell and wont be as stiff/strong?

Im only asking you guys as i cant really be arsed to go to various panel shops (need 3 quotes for insurance) if its going to be a write off.

    BUT

I most likley will get something stupid as a payout due to insurance value is not what my value is?

Anyone had this sort of impact before? I am not a panel specialist so cant really make any calls myself, I am merely looking for some advise as im sure this has happend to some of you before?

F'ing annoyed as it was on teh way to trax, i was not doing anything wrong and its my car you no?? I have put a lot of time and effort into her to make her as smooth a runner as she is now, I have heaps of reciepts of parts so that will help if its a write off?

Just not 100% sure as to what I want done about it. although its only another £400 to insure a VTS/GTI but then i have to find one of those that hasn't been molested + get the extra Paper for it. FML why me????

Theyve also given me a horrid brand new TDI golf thats soooooooooooooo slow. But at least im still on the road.

    cheers guys

it will be a write off unfortunately, most saxo's involved in that kind of accident will be

i know the pain of whiplash, i was off work for 2 weeks with it, hurting like a motherfucker, still have problems with my back now it also crunches haha.

hope you start feeling better soon, big payout for you means you can get something better than a saxo? lol

well I like pocket rockets tbf, so was thinking maybe 106gti? or vts?
Problem is i dont think ill get much money from my insurer it being a saxo nd all, the clock says 104k but has had a lot of rebuilds, heaps of services but unfortunatly as i am not cack handed and can do these things myself i cant stamp my log book so i only have reciepts of seals etc and i have lost a few things

STUPID FAT SLUTS CAN GET THE FUCK OFF THE ROAD! (rant over)

yeah i feel you on the crunching! I cant even sit straight for a long periods of time without pain and having to 'crack' my neck and back to get some sort of pressure relief.

Id say its more uncomfortable that painful

As i was not at fault i am pushing for as much as possible, any other damages i can claim? I am fully comp - and i no i will get slated for this but I dont do anything other than 'play cars' as mum likes to put it, I cant bare to be in the golf much longer (2 days so far - helpp) although i will be and this is why I have been paying stupid premiums for years! (except in australia)

Just makes me angry as i could of stamped on the loud pedal and made it across the round a bout, but being responsible and having passengers in the car i decided not to as it wouldnt be worth the risk. Its against everything insurance companies charge us stupid amounts for - a 20 year old lad in a saxo being responsible and in no fault gets hit by 2 23+ female drivers. Its just winding me up thinking about!

    Absolute TW@s!!!

    Cheers for swift response MLAW

yes very uncomfortable, the burning at the top of the neck, feeling like you cant move, i actually worked a few days like it, but eventually realised it wasn't going to work and had to take another two weeks off lol.

my courtesy car was a 10 plate ghastra! would have much preferred a new golf !

i never claimed on my own because it was just me and a tree so no payout for me, BUT im pretty sure you can claim loss of earnings with you being off work for whatever period, fairly easy i guess unless you work self employed and maybe cant prove a steady earning pattern.

im sure looking back in hindsight you will always think "could i have....should i have" but at the end of the day you shouldn't have to bomb over a round about because some fart tart is approaching a roundabout at 40mph doing her makeup !!

yeah it'll be a write off. services etc will be classed as maintenance and wont increase the value.
you'll get a market valuation, enough to realistically replace it. so if they offer you £500 and the cheapest one within 50 miles of you thats the same age mileage etc is £750 then push for more money. you wont be allowed to use ebay examples

great!! although everything is declare, it will be leaving with no exhaust, steelies etc so i can sell them to get more money!

So will this be the only way to push for more money? I could easily sell 2nd hand at 1200 odd, think i put my estimate at 1800 though so no chance of getting that back?

When i walked to her car (the one responsible - she didnt even get out of her car or apologize or anything!!) there was an iphone on the d/s dash, with half a long and unfinished messeage - im a nosey bugger when something like this happens - on the screen, pointed out to PC Plod when he showed up but he said 'you cant make accusations without proof' - yeahh right , like you can miss a bright red golf infront of you - i mean a saxo infornt of that may be harder to see but a BRIGHT RED FUCKING GOLF!

This hassel is just shit, and im aching, and as i am technically self employed atm, i cant claim not being able to work! FML!

I asked if they can pay for my insurance on the TVR but i think we all no what the answer was!

Whats the going rate for an unmolested GTI/VTS? via pistonheads it seems to be around the 1800-2000 mark, how about on this forum? - still wont let me see any ads

the impact loosend the exhaust up too. so that 'fell' off.

I cannot get over the sheer idiocity of some people though. WHEN CARS ARE STOPPED YOU ALSO STOP! IF ITS WET YOU STOP EARLIER AND DONT POUND ON YOUR BRAKES ITS OBVIOUS PHYSICS!

properly fucked me off - im even venting on my girlfriend friends and family - not a good i dea and is making me feel bad I need to start smoking weed again i think!

Having purchased quite a few written off cars, I can quite confidently say that your car will be written off...

take a look at copart.co.uk and see some of the cars there that have been written off for what damage,

saxos are usual Cat D for cracked bumpers or a stolen spoiler

cat c when the bumpers/wings need replacing

everything else usually a cat B (break for parts only)

If you would like to buy the car back off the insurance company and fix it yourself, you can... at a very low cost. Sometimes its worth buying the car back off the insurance as a Cat whatever and then put on ebay as is, 7 times out of 10 you will get your money back for what you bought the car back plus some profit and you get the insuance payout, win win really
