clutch?? or gear box?? or something else??

   hi, was driving up a short but steep-ish hill earlier, was going up in 3rd then went in 4th gear. then obviously i was in too high gear for the hill so put it into second and all that happened was a lot of smoke and i wasn't moving anywhere. so put handbrake on turned engine off. turned back on and put in first and crawled the rest of the hill , pulled up, then i set off again and noticed and cant change gear, pushing the gear stick really really hard and might get it into either 2,3,4th gear. and also if im still with engine on and try put into reverse it wont go in and just grinds. Also when i do get it into first ( usually by putting it into first before i turn engine on) setting off its not the same it feels like im not putting my foot down when i am , setting off really slow, almost have to crawl off.
   I can only get into gears ok when engines not on.
   i know this is not explained very well but any one got any idea's??
   HELP PLEASE!! ( im due to sell my vtr on the 19th of this month so really do need it sorting.

   Engine running ok? Sounds like fucked clutch but dont see why would smoke?

   clutch sounds like its gone mate.

   try tightening the clutch cable bolts, you might just get away with it. i had to do this on mine while clutch was going

   thats what i was thinking but this clutch kit was only put on about 2 mnths a go a was bought brand new. how and whre do tighten clutch??

   He means the nut on your clutch cable. its under your battery tray. But if its gone from one extreme to the next then it sounds fucked. If its new... and you got it done at a garage take it back, If not we need more details....

   sounds like either bent clutch arm or probably fucked clutch
