spongy pedal on brakes

  1. #1
Just bled up my standard vtr brakes with motul dot 5.1 fluid. I used a Gunson Easy Bleed kit with a spare tyre offering the pressure to force it through the system. All the calipers bled up fine, no air coming out down the tubes just a steady stream of fluid but I've still got a horrible spongy pedal.
The car has had new lines from back to front and new pads all round too. I know saxos often do have a "crap" feel to the pedal, but it should still pump up solid with the engine off. With the engine on mine is even worse, the pedal travels very very down with no real "bite" to the brakes. Anyone got any advice for me? I'm going to do it the old fashioned way tomorrow with someone pumping the pedal

Try it the old way as you have said, the only other thing I can suggest is you may have a leak in the brake servo.I think i`m right in saying also that there is a vacuum pipe going from the air filter box which is also to do with your brakes check it for splits etc.

Vaccum is fitted to the inlet on this (mk1 VTR injection system) with a special pipe. Pedal just doesnt want to pump up hard. Also it wasnt leaking in the servo before I took it all apart, brakes were fine

Have adjusted the brake servo bar - only seems to have changed the amount of pedal travel not the spongyness
