Drivers door lock issue

   hey there, my mk2 saxo will not lock using the key, yet when i remove the door lock mech it locks, it continues to lock until i remove the key again,
   
   anyone had this issue and whats the best fix??

   check out the wires that go from the car to the door,mine went dodgy over time with all the opening and closeing give them wiggle and see how you go on

   sorry, what i meant was the actual door lock where the key goes in, it locks when i remove the mechanism from the door, i had the father in law keep turning the key until i asked him to remove the key and try again, once removed the and re-entered the key doesnt want to turn!

   just to update, the car is now sorted, removed the barrel and gave it a good clean (removed the springs) then lubed it up, now works like new, even if i have stuck it on passenger door now and passenger on drivers door
