temp gague replacement

hi all am thinking about the temp gauge on the 1.1 forte as their is just a light

can i take a set of clocks from a model which has the gauge and swap them over and the gauge actually works or is their alot more work to it than that ?

reason y is i want to know what is going on rather than just guess

Bought a set of clocks for my 1.5 diesel (stop tittering in the ranks!!!) with temp gauge, but I think you need a heat dependent resister (temp sender), rather than an on/off heat switch which I think the standard 'engine melting light' models have at the thermostat. They are different colours and mount in different places (I haven't got round to doing this yet, but if (when dammit!) I do, I'll let people know. The Haynes book of lies explains the colour coding a bit, but if anyone has done the conversion please do feel free to chip in !
