Instant help needed - overheating!

  1. #1
    Hi
I recently fit a twin fan onto my MK2 VTR
I simply connected the wires up - green to green and green/yellow to green/yellow.
Yet now, my fans don't come on, and my overheating light comes on, when te fan should normally kick in!
What can I do to test!?!?

Please help! Need a fix fast!

    Thanks

If the light has come on youll be lucky not to have blown your headgasket tbh.

The light comes on, when standing in traffic, when the needle goes above half
I've just checked and my engine bay fuse has gone (30A in the top right of the engine bay fuse box)
But I fit a twin fan onto my VTR, should I have changed that fuss to something else?

    What fuse should I use!?
    Quick help needed!

What should I be looking for?

    Thanks

Just checked what I think is the relay, all seemed fine
The fans just seem to have blown the fuse
But I don't know whether to change it from 30A coz that was used for my single VTR fan!

    Think it's the fuse
If anyone with a twin fan could tell me what fuse they have in the top right slot in the under bonnet fuse box, would be super helpful!!

    I've got a 30A in the fusebox

its easy but dont do it when the car hot.

it might not be the temp sensor on urs, if ur vtr fan was working fine then the temp sensor should be fine.

    Yeah VTR fan was fine
Should I just whack another 30A fuse in?
  13. #13
    yea. give it a go.
  14. #14
Well according to the fuse diagrams both fuse 3 and 5 are for the fan, fuse 5 was fine so I've just put that fuse in the slot and put the broken fuse in slot 5

Will put two new 30A fuses in today though!

    Nice!

Sounds like either a fault with your fan motor not working(that`s why the fuse)has blown or the fan switch, why did you swap the fan over anyway?

To test the motor on the fan connect it directly to the battery.

Which cable the green or the green yellow!?

Unplug your fan then connect 2 cables to it then back to the battery, which is +/- i`m not sure on the fan motor itself.
  24. #24
So run the green to +
and the green/yellow to the -
and if it doesn't work, swap them other
If it doesn't work then...then it's had it?

    Here's what mine says:
    12v-25A-03701
    30 87
    ** * 87
    86 85

    With an image to show:

    Clearer...?

Nice, keep it 30A as thats what it should be.

I changed mine to twin fan and changed nothing but the sleeving on the connector and i have a VTR.

How did she run before you changed it?

So the same setup as me
And fine, could probably do with bleeding but no biggy!

    So
The engine got up to temperature, half way on dials, then went over, fans kicked in for about 1 second, then bang
Fuse gone again, same one, 30A in top right slot in under bonnet fuse box :@
So I've put a 35A in for the time and checked the wiring connections are sound
What's the best connector/connection for this?
  30. #30
Use male to female spade connectors but make sure you still have the connector from the loom, take a pic of both end connectors to show me what you have
  31. #31
    Messed up there haven't I!
I've cut the original loom connector off, the one that clipped into the VTR fan I had
I now have the wires that went into that connector, connected to the wires that come from the twin fans

    That make sense???
