gearstick wobbling under load

When i come of the accelerator and put my foot down again the gear stick wobbles and makes a clunking sound, any ideas what it could be?

also when changing gear, usually the lower gears, there is a clunking sound and gear changes are a bit sloppy. any ideas what that could be, would they be linked?

had this problem since i got the car a year ago.

Is there any play in the stick whilst its in neutral?
If so it'll be the linkages cheap diy fix,
Or about £20ish with labour at most garages.

Gearlinkages or possibly lower engine mount.

Open the bonnet, and watch for excessive movement while a mate puts it in first - one foot on the brake and one on the clutch bringing it up to the bite uite sharply. See if it bangs from the lower engine mount.

For the sloppy feeling it could be the split pin on the gear selector on the box, which will be better being drilled out and a larger one put in.
    Or
    Gearlinkages the rubbers worn
    Or
Lower Fork Bush worn giving some movement
    Or
The Rubber ball on one of the selectors worn

just been having a look with a mate, not much play when in neutral.

also no clunking when i did what DB_sax mentioned. :/

    only does it whilst moving.

it is a lower engine mount thats causing these problems it seems. had a mechanic look at it.

didn't really know what i was looking for, thought it was just normal movement. was a mate who looked at it for me, so didn't get charged or owt.

its only a bit of play, but seems to be affecting gear changes abit. will get it sorted when i come back from scotland.

700 mile round trip. fingers crossed saxo will make it.
