stuck wheel locking nut grrr

  1. #1
Hi, after a few months of owning my Saxo I thought I'd join this site (can't figure out how to upload a picture yet though :/)

Anyway, went to Kwik Fit last weekend to get my tyres changed, and they informed me that my front passenger wheel won't come off. They used the biggest bar and henchest worker they had but the locking wheel nut wouldn't budge. They basically told me to sort this problem then come back for the other tyre.

So, I got myself some penetrating oil to try and sort the problem, but I've just gone to see if the nut is loosened and my word, Kwik Fit have ruined my locking nut key! All 4 locking points are dented and flattened, and I'm pretty sure the nut itself may be damaged too....

basically, I need to know if there's any other ways to get the locking nut off? I'm happy to replace it with a standard nut (would that be possible?) if I can get it off, then I guess I'll order a new key incase I need the other wheels off anytime soon.

I really need to get the wheel off soon so I can get the tyre changed as I'm left on a few mm! I'm thinking about hammering a smaller socket around it, but I'd like to find the cheapest method possible. Any ideas how much a garage would charge??

    Cheers!

so they fucked it, and then told you to fix it, haha.

i would take i back to them and explain when it was brought it that the key and nut were fine, just on very well, could they not have used an air gun to remove it?

I am thinking of going back so they can sort out my key! But apparently they tried an airgun on it too. I really don't wanna have to drill it as I can only imagine it's pricey, I'm gonna try and get a quote from an independent garage tomorrow

thats what u get for going to places like kwik fit, they're useless at everything but good at fucking things up .

smack a smaller socket over the top and take it off that way or hammer and chisel it.
then replace with a standard bolt

Yeah, that's the last time I ask my dad to book the car in while I'm at work! I just reread my post....I meant bolt everytime I said nut.... it's been a long week.

Will get a quote from my local garage first, then I guess I'll ruin a socket to sort it

sounds very well stuck probably got the best idea trying a garage at 1st but if you do it yourself I find hammer and chisel is best for loosening bolts, thats how I got my hub nut off my old 1.1 after swinging off a huge bar and it still not moving lol.

Get a smaller socket on it with a breaker bar, with someone in the car with their foot on the brake mate.

Hammer and chisel got them off my wheels in the end! Cost £20 at local place, but that was because he spent an hour trying to weld a normal nut on top of the locking ones before.

Don't go to kwik fit again for tyres, always better off at a local garage or tyre place. Kwik fit will always try to do the job quickly, they're less worried about doing it properly!
