track rod ends

  1. #1
just been trying to replace my track rod ends. the drivers side was simple came off really easy, great i though to the passengers side. and could i get it off ? no !!! it is seized in the track rod, i have managed to get it to move slightly by heating it up ect but i cannot get it off.

any one else had this what did you do?

i had the though of welding the rod end nut and using a 22mm socket an gunnning it off while someone hold the track rod.

only thing i can think of now lol

any help would be really apreciated

    thanks
    kyle.

Pop the track rod end back into the strut so it can't move then try to turn the rod itself with a spanner.

If you can move it just a bit it should break the seal of rust/corrosion.

Also heat the rod as you have been doing so it expands outwardly from the TRE.

Which end are we talking about here - steering arm end or where it goes through the strut and is secured by a nylock nut?
I just cut mine off from the nut end with a grinder and then undid them at the arm end. If its the arm end though you might be able to get a spanner on it so it cant twist/turn when undoing.

its the outer one mate nearest the strut on a mk2 2001 furio, been toying with the idea of putting arm in a vice welding the lock nut onto rod end and cutting the ball joint off and gunning the hell out of it untill it comes off lol.
