MOT failure.

Failed my MOT today. Main thing was emissions but I'm changing the cat and lambda sensors tomorrow. Only thing I'm not sure about was the seats are not secure? They're mounted in the car properly but the seats wobble a little bit. The 4 mounting bolts are all tight though? Any ideas?
And apparently my drivers seat belt doesn't release under pressure..but when the guy went to show me it worked fine..then whenever I've tried afterwards it worked fine?

so when you move the seat is the bolts moving with it? or can you see some thread of the bolts that allow the seat to move?
if its all secure but seat moves then the shell under could be weak. if you can take the seat out, get the carpet up and see if the chassis is weak

No none ofthe bolts have any movement at all..all the screws are secure and it's not the frame that moves, just the seat..and it's both of them?

hmmmm no idea then mate, sorry

so the actual structure of the seat is weakened.
    new seat / frame / sliders . . .

may as well buy a nice set of buckets then

Thorough test if they checked eatbelts too, they usuallt forget about them lol

Change spark plugs as well for emissions, i did for last MOT and it made a massive difference (in my case it almost halved them)

Yeah gonna chuck standard seats back in for the re-test, should still be in ok condition, swap them back after.

Spark plugs wont make a lot of difference mate, had a major service about 3k miles ago.

got a new cat and lambda sensor coming from euro parts for £103.30 so pretty good deal iirc? girlfriends dad's fitting it so free labour. recon thatll sort the emissions?

My seats make a loud knocking sound sometimes when you get in and out, had a look under the seat and i think one of the screws connecting the seat to the rail is loose, but ill get back to you on this

Right, here's what it reads on the fail sheet...

Offside front seat belt locking mechanism does not secure or release (BULLSHIT)

    Drivers Seat insecure [6.2.3]

Nearside front passenger seat insecure [6.2.3]

Nearside headlamp aim too high [1.8]

Offside headlamp aim too high [1.8]

(THESE WILL BE ADJUSTED ON THE RE-TEST)

Offside rear fog light not working [1.2.3b]

Exhaust emission carbon monoxide content after 2nd2nd fast idle excessive [7.3.d.2b]

Exhaust emissions Lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits [7.3.d.2b]

What can i do for the emissions ones? they'rethe only ones im not sure about.. i've got a new cat and lambda sensor coming tomorrow, but here's the emissions readings..

    Engine oil temp -97- ok

    Fast idle test FAIL
Engine speed Not checked 1950 255c
    CO level 1.38% FAIL
    HC Level 99ppm PASS
    Lambda 1.01 PASS

    Second fast idle test FAIL
Engine Speed Not checked 1950 255c
    CO Level 0.51% FAIL
    HC Level 48 ppm PASS
    Lambda 1.06 FAIL

    Natural Idle test PASS
Engine Speed Not checked 750 95C
    CO Level 0.45% PASS

    OVERALL EXHAUST EMISSION RESULT FAIL

Bump. Re-test on Thursday, replaced the cat and the lambda sensor..the lambda was orangey/yellow/red on the end..guessing that might have had something to so with it?
  13. #13
you dont need to have 2 rear fog lights?

mine doesnt have a bulb on the pasenger side rear and passed the MOT.

    Tester sounds very thorough.

cat an sensor should sort emissions.

also ask when the emsission tester machine was last calibrated if it fails again. lol
  14. #14
No you only need drivers side rear fog lamp, but my passenger one works and you need the drivers side..I've just moved the working bulb over lol.
Yeah I'll definitely ask or go to another garage if it fails emissions again..either that or cry..
