Removing the centre exhaust shield - Okay?

  1. #1
Yo, my new exhaust system is slightly out of line and catching the centre exhaust heat shield. It's near damn impossible to adjust the angle of the sections relative to each other since it's such tight fit. So can I remove the shield without any adverse effect on the car? Like spontaneously catching fire?

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks in advance,

    Cheers,

I have removed the section of the heatshield that covers the handbrake adjustment nut/bolt.

I couldnt seem to adjust my Piper exhaust to the right position so it wouldnt vibrate.

That was about 3-4 months ago now and havent had any problems yet

It'll get hot inside the car/handbrake tunnel. Can you not mod the shield?

it will get hot but not dangerously hot.

the centre section doesnt even get that hot under normal driving...

    Cheers bitches.

Tonts I'm with you actually, was just looking for comments like 'naa nothing wrong whatsoever'. If the tunnel is getting warm that's no good to me. Will look at adjusting the shield or just whip the system off again and adjust it

    Just an update.

To those people who've suggested that's it's okay to remove the heat shield, you're mad quite frankly. Get under your car, sort the exhaust positioning out and put the heat shield back on. There's the hand brake unit there, which is supposed to be greased up to prevent corrosion and wear, any heat towards that stuff will just melt it off.

The solution is to grab a mallet and bash the heat shield in the appropriate places to correct for any oddly positioned systems - works a treat and I have a rattle-free exhaust system now. woop

Perfectly fine to bin them - 1.1s and Furios never had them as standard.

Not sure how bad the effect would be on the saxo but on anything rwd when you remove them you can easily burn your legs on the tunnel and melt your shoe when off the clutch lol..

On a race car feel free every gram and all but not a road car IMO.

I didn't have much choice with mine, snapped every single stud off on the front section when I removed it to change my gear linkages! I've got a straight through stainless Magnex system though, if I had the full lot of silencers and a cat under there it would create a lot more heat and I'd probably be more worried. I've still got my shield under the handbrake though it's just the front section I didn't put back on.

    Rip it out

rip it out. I've ran without them on my car for over 2 years. The last 18 months or so boosted obviously so running hot. No harm done
