Removing 266mm pads

  1. #1
On the 206 gti setup how do you get the pads out, i took the bottom bolt out with the locator and tried to swing the caliper around for it to move about 10mm then stop almost as if its hitting something.

    tia.

remove to the 2 bolts that screw into the ends of the slider bolts that hold the caliper to the carrier and the caliper will just lift off leaving the pads in the carrier still attached to the the hub mate, then they just twist and slide out.

thats how i do mine anyway

think my 266's are off a hdi of some sort but should be similar if not the same.

O so you have to remove the carrier to get the pads out.. i thaught youd jsut be able to undo the bottom caliper bolt and pivet it on the top fixing which hasnt got a removable bolt.

    Cheers dude.

nah dont have to remove the carrier, i leave them two bolts attacthed to the hub/strut.

i just remove the caliper from the top.

well this is how i put them together anyway,

    bolted the disk on.
bolted the carier to the strut (after some grinding)
then fitted the pads to the carrier just by sliding them in sideways and twisting them straight.
then placed the calliper on the top and fitted the two small bolts that locate in to carrier slider bolts.

    if that makes sense? lol

Aha then my set up may be different as on the carrier where youd usally find a pair of bolts the top one on mine isnt, it looks as if its got a solid pivit point and only the bottom fixing is removable..

    oh dear.

    fuck knows then haha.

theres gotta be a way to remove the carrier surely?

or do they expect you to buy a new strut if you bend a carrier? lol.

Its very strange indeed, theyre must be a way..

Ill take photos to show what i mean.

my calipers are bosch, duno if the same tho.

the bolt it tells you to remove to pivot the caliper in that guide, i remove both of them and just lift off the whole caliper.

not that it makes a difference lol.

so yours wont pivot like the one in that picture?

I felt about and stuck my head in their, it dosent look like it has a bolt at the top..

Yer mine are bosch too, the more i think about it the more i think im just being a fanny and should of smashed a screw driver in there to "un pinch" the piston. im not doing a pad change you see just wanted to get a bit of 'slip on the pads as they squell.

    yeah i see.

i copper greased mine up when i assembled them.

    havent had them on long.

all i know is the heat resistant bbq paint plastikote make isnt heat resistant...
  12. #12
ive always just used good old hammerite
  13. #13
i will be using silver hammerite when i get round to re-doing them.

plastikote heat resistant paint is a complete fail when it comes to brakes... infact, anything that disperses heat cause it didnt last long on our bbq either hahaha.

    LOL

I had to paint mine as a previous owner at some stage painted them red.. whether theyre massive behind the rims or not theyre still single pots which isnt something to show off
  15. #15
    aha you know it.

i painted my standard 247 setup bright yellow.

it took one guy in a car park to say, those brakes are shit why have you painted them yellow.

from then on i thought you bell end, why did you paint them yellow haha.

rears are still yellow tho :/

    Live and learn lol..

When i was painting them my brother come round, he asked why i was painting them black when "red looks better" he got the "what the fuck" face
