quick question, clutch

when people say "does your car pull away in 4th" does it mean if i came up suddenly of the clutch or let it out slowly with some revs?
  2. #2
why would you wanna pull away in 4th? thats what 1st and 2nd gear are for!! lol

"Pull away" to me is cruising along in 4th and then putting your foot down and your car will will accelerate rapidly and 'pull away' from other cars.

Since you're talking about clutch control I take it you mean setting off? Yes its possible with a few more revs than usual and fine clutch control; you can set off in 5th if you like. Not reccomended though...

lol sorry, i should have worded it better. i mean for testing if your clutch is on its way out.

my clutch doesnt feel right, the biting point has gone lower, just of the floor. the actual pedal hasn't moved just the biting point.

so someone said does it pull away in 4th?

mine does pull away in 4th without stalling thats all, and was told that it shouldn't

    ah right lol.

You usually notice when the clutch starts to slip. This is when the clutch isnt getting the traction it should (hence it is slipping). So if you can set off in 4th then there is still enough grip there. If you can't set off in 4th and the car just stalls then it could be time for a new clutch.
considering you can set off your clutch is fine

If your biting point has changed and is now on the floor, i'd recommend taking it to a garage.

Most people wont pull away in 4th so everyone's clutch could be going?

    That doesn't make sense.

If you have enough gas you can pull away in any gear, aslong as your clutch control is there, but as you're supposed to use 1-2k rpm to pull away, i don't think hitting 4-5k is healthy.
