106 gti big problem

  1. #1
Will try and keep in brief.
Basically picked car up from bodyshop yesterday and soon as I started the car to leave it sounded really bad like a tank and seemed to have lost power.
Anyway after about 20 mins the car was still loud and started banging through the exhaust system Wich was basically back firing.
Pulled up on the hard shoulder and the car just didn't want to move.
Phoned the RAC and he said straight away it was the coil pack but couldn't tow it as the car was too low to get the straps round so got it to the girlfriends mums house.
Went today and picked a coil pack up from the scrappys off a vts.
Fitted it and the car wasn't firing up so put the old one back in and it seemed fine. Drove it for 5 mins and still okay.
So started driving it back home and for the first 10 miles it was fine then it seemed to get loud again when I put my foot down and seemed to struggle when acceleration pedal was allway down and the noise was worse and sort of had a bit of juggering as tho it was running out of fuel.
    Any help on this lads.

Dodgy fuel pump perhaps? Or the wiring to it?

Well took my BMC air filter off and cleaned it and noticed there was oil on my throttle body so cleaned all that and also noticed there was a little bit of oil on one of my sensors so cleaned all the sensors from the coil pack to the throttle body and been out in the car for a while and all seems well again.
Could this really have caused it to misfire etc.
    Thanks

well if your inlet sensor is oil covered it will not be giving correct readings, therefor it might be overfueling, hence causing a drop in power and the back fireing as unburnt fuel will be exiting the exhaust port

i would have gone for dodgy fuel pump too actually now that i have read it again lol

Hi mate ye it seems to be okay now.
Ye still running it with the ph3 cams, was meant to be getting the predator but had to put it on hold with only getting car back from body shop on Friday and then this happening but now everything's okay can get the predator.
How's you finding the new car mate and how's it coming on?

Ye I changed the coil pack mate and the car wouldn't fire up so put old one back on and noticed there was oil in the throttle body inlet plus on the sensors from the coil pack so gave them a clean and it's been fine for a week now lol.
