does anyone know why after i stop somewhere my radiator decides to lose all its coolent through its bleed hole near the cap, its a 16v with a vtr rad and fan,
radiator keeps dumping coolent - will this fan fit

#2You have an airlock.
How did you bleed the system? -
#3Change your rad cap.
-
#4or your headgasket is gone..
its mainly either overheating or an airlock, both are very bad as it "can" fry your h/g the fist time it happens
which vtr rad do you have? if its the mk1/early mk2 its not big enough and if its clogged with shit then this could also be why.... what year is the car.. -
#5its the early mk2 one, have just asked someone for a vts one waiting for a reply, i changed the cap from a 15 psi one to a 20 psi but still leaks lol. its been bled plenty to make sure. sometimes on long journeys i get no leaks at all, then i can do same journey again and it will leak, only done it since we've had the nice weather lol.

#6bled by putting fans on hot and full whack, taking off rad cap and filling to top, put cap back on, start engine, crack screw on thermostat until steam stops and water comes out then do same to the valve cap at rear left of engine. wait until engine has cooled, top expansion bottle back up, repeat proceedure until coolent level stays the same
-
#7change the rad and bleed it properly, try not to drive it untill then, you may..if havent already..cook the head gasket.
sounds like the vtr one and fan cant cope with the heat in this weahter, itll most likley be after youve sat in traffic or still for a little bit...no air through rad and small rad/fan will cause it to boil over
seriousley not good for your engine, if you must drive it then knock it off everytime you get to llights or traffic -
#8yeahh, it doesnt get over 2/3 on temp dial, coolent only comes out when the engine is turned off. im using the cbr125 at the moment as its nice weather so ill wait for the vts rad to arrive before hopping back in the saxo.

#9As said above.
I'm running a vtr rad and slim fan. The rad just doesnt cut it tbh. I'm Upgrading my cooling in the coming weeks with a diesel rad and vts twin fan setup. One fan is gunna be switched so I can control it.
hope your gasket ain't gone mate.
-
#103 plug mk2 vtr rad is same as vts one...so can get one of those,
stevo id go for 2 slimline fans tbh, be much easier to fit and probs cool better
you know you need a header tank etc for diesel rad yeah? mines fine with the bigger R/S rad and single slim line, but i uprading to 2 fans soon
deano....when you change the rad, get a garden hose pipe and flush the water back and forth between the two rad pipes for a good long while, chances are your matrix will be full of sludge aswell, should cool alot better -
#11dont think it has tbh, head gasket is new so not worn and coolent doesnt smell like petrol or oil and no water in oil or vise versa. jus waiting for people to get back to me atm. is there any way to use the old fan or will i need a new one too
-
#12yeah it got the hosepipe treatment the other week when the heat exchanger leaked. now having a browse on ebay lol
-
#13Hmm it only climbs when I'm on boost tbh mate, and obv traffic. I really think the rad I have is to skinny, is the vts rad much thicker? Don't think new rads are that dear tbh deano, may be worth just buying a new, thicker radiator.
-
#14well the saxo has to be sold as i now need a diesel but want it running well when i sell, i can get a mk2 rad and fan off ebay for about 50quid so i may do that.
