check the car's history while you're at it, make sure to find out when was the last time the cambelt got changed. If not, have it changed asap for peace of mind (the damage if it snaps is basically a dead engine). Then do a proper service if it hasn't been done, oil/air filter/fuel filter/spark plugs. You can also call the AA(or others, avoid KwikFit) to have an 80 point check or similar, also for peace of mind.

The part is called an oil breather pipe. Don't worry too much, when you buy a used car, you're likely to have a few problem to sort out first.

yh im planing on servicing the car and getting the cam done as no service history....the air filter housing looks like it hasnt been opened for along time and theres oil round the gasket of it??? strange???
but still dont know why the car cuts out when fully connected...?
    thanks

headgasket maybe on it's way out... Not too expensive though, you can get a headgasket kit with rocker cover seal for around 30 quid on Ebay. Before that just clean the oil and see how fast it comes out again, not necessarily a problem but just keep an eye on it for now.

Also check the battery, it can sometimes be the culprit with engine cuts.

hi...its never cut out before, just when i put the new breather pipe on, ive read on other posts on here it saying to cover the pipe up whats leading to the throttle , but if you cover that up the car cuts out? does any body think theres a blockage or owt?
any ideas....nobody seams to know and its doing my head in lol
    cheers
