Hi all, I've just change the gearbox on my girlfriends vtr to a 1.1 gearbox, all went smoothly until I tried putting into gear! It initially would only select 3rd and 4th gear so I got underneath and noticed the linkage was hitting the downpipe, thinking I may have bent it slightly when changing the gearbox I decided to bend it back downwards. I am now able to select all gears with a bit of a struggle apart from 5th as it pops back out and wont stay in. I tried running the engine for a little while to see if the gears would loosen up with the new oil in it but that didn't seem to make a difference, so I decided to try and drive it. Put it in reverse and went forward! Put it in 1st and the car stalled, tried 2nd gear and the car reversed. In other words all the gears seem to be the opposite way round to how they should be, this is the bit that's confusing me, I cant work out how I've managed to do that nor how to fix it. Does anyone have an idea where I've gone wrong and how to fix it? Thanks Jay.

#2should be a straight swap over. double check you have connected linkages correctly as i think u should have 1 or 2 spare ball joints. post pic?

#3as above check gear linkages as could be the wrong way round, simple mistake

#4I won't have a chance to take a pic today but I'll get under there first thing in the morning and upload a pic. I do remember seeing another ball joint but it had a cover on it which is why I assumed I should connect the 2 bottom linkages to the 2 free ball joints. Hopefully that's where I've gone wrong!

#5Alright lads, the gearbox is working properly now! You were absolutely right, there are 3 ball joints for the bottom 2 linkages, I just switched them over and it worked. Thanks so much for your help, it gets my girlfriend of me back now, atleast till the next problem occurs!
