Light knocking when accelerating left..

  1. #1
When I start turning left and put my foot down slightly, I can hear this quiet knocking coming from the left, it doesn't match the speed of the wheels - in fact it's faster.

What could this be? a CV joint? I was told you'd only hear that on full-lock, but if I turn left slightly and accelerate I can hear it - a very quick but quiet knocking sound.

It's not that loud, but I'd rather get it sorted before it gets worse. Any ideas? Thanks!

Cheers for the quick reply. My father had a CV joint wearing on his VW - it sounds exactly the same, but you could only hear his on full lock. That's what made me question it.

Expensive to get done? By a garage inc. labour I mean.

Shouldnt be no more £30 - 40 i spose, maybe more some garages will try to talk you in to buying a new drive shaft.

check wheel bolts, driveshaft nut and that everything is tight. check the wishbone for play on the joints and mounts.

If it is the CV joint its £10 for the rubber boot and takes about 30mins to fit.

When you fit the new boot use jubliee clips not the standard push fit crap too

All good tips, much appreciated wheel bolts are fine, where is the drive shaft 'nut' located? I'm not that mechanically minded

centre of the hub mate. Take the wheel off and you'll see it but it may have a cover over it depending on the car
