Idle control-getting fed up now..

  1. #1
After spending my time mostly in the rain yesterday trying to get to the idle control valve I finally managed to get it off and clean it up.
Today when I tested it its idling a lot worse -generally revving between 2-3000rpms.Surprising as its now clean.
Any ideas what else I could do to try and solve the idling issue?

Would an ecu reset by battery lead have helped?
Not home at the mo but could try this later

how did you clean it? you could have damaged it all together attempting to clean it as thats well known. best get a new one tbh mate. could try the ecu reset but dont think it will do much

    Cheers
Just basically gave it a good old spray up with carb cleaner.
I did notice that some of the silver on the nippkle was worn away once I cleaned it...
Guess its off to Ebay we go..

    Thanks mate
well my searches suggest that this is the first thing to try and coupled with the fact that cleaning the part has made things worse Im thinking thats where my problem lies

    Whats your thoughts otherwise?

have you tried resetting the icv? turn ignition on all the way but don't start and wait till the dials settle then turn off, do that 6 times then start it on the 7th and see if it makes a difference. If not i'd go for a low mileage used one if you can get hold of one

    Cheers Ben
Tried the old ICV reset thing but to no avail.
This is what worries me about Ebay stuff-trial and error..waiting for delivery, fitting etc only to find that its a poor quality part

Any ideas on this part new from Citroen?

I've heard they are in the range of £100-150 from the main dealers which is quite steep but thats the only place your gonna get one new that will work like the original part is supposed to imo
