    Hi guys,

had a problem for a while but iv run out of money as i cant afford to keep filling it up with oil, plus dads getting pissed cos the drives a state lol

there seems to be a lot of fresh oil coming out from around a plate thing next to the join between the head and rocker cover on the right hand side of the engine (looking at the engine from front of car), but i have no idea what it is

Heres a pic, hopefully someone could help me to find out what it is and its job as there seems to be a small rubber seal around where it joins the head

    thanks

    Lewis

that looks to me like the place where a coilpack is usually bolted to with HT leads, has it been converted to overhead coilpack and blanked off?
  5. #5
^^as above id guess that ^^

but as for leak if its coming from around that plate then its most likely trickling from rocker cover. take that cover off and clean around and get away as much leaked out oil as you can. replace with new gasket and see if that helps

already replaced the gasket in the summer, i thought all vtr's and vts' had over head coilpacks??
  7. #7
can you get a bigger picture for us pal?
  8. #8
not this evening defo tomoz, i need to find out asap as i think this is where the leaks coming from, had a search but i cant find any pics of a mk1 vtr engine bay lol

have a look at some progress threads on here your bound to find one lol. but that plate does look to me like its an old coil pack location

there you go mate see if that helps on your engine.

as we said old coil pack location
  11. #11
looks like you had ya cam cover changed to a silvertop though.
  12. #12
mines an s reg and iv only ever seen one other pic of an s reg engine bay exactly the same
  13. #13
hmmmm my mate had a t-reg but it was the 1 long coil pack behind cam cover unless thats when it was changed
  14. #14
yeah just had a look at the link and see what you mean!, i have no idea whats wrong with this car its just one thing after another! surely it'd be quite hard to covert to a overhead coilpack?, do you know whats underneath it?
  15. #15
well mines is the overhead one but lets say it had the coil pack on the side. only thing under there is top of gearbox and a few wires and maybe a sensor.

EDIT: off the top of my head
  16. #16
but as for the leak then get checking for cracks on the block around that arear. remove that plate etc and take a real close look around
  17. #17
well on quite a few pics of others engine bays, theres a small black of metal attached to the head where the end of the cam shaft roughly is? behind the thermostat?
  18. #18
cheers mate, will sort it tomoz
  19. #19
if its been converted, maybe its ill fitting. get an original one on, but then i know nothng about VTR's..

good point. if it has had a conversion. just give it a good clean check around, if you cant see anything run the engine on idle whilst looking around too. good luck with it mate
