Standing for 8months

I've taken my car to uni but I'm not using it enough to warrant the high insurance prices
Gunna sorn my car till exams are over and then drive over summer and next year I'll have a drive and insurance will be cheaper

So what's best for leaving it to stand? Parents will be starting it every now and then but is it best to disconnect the battery?
How much petrol should I leave in it, does it matter?

Should I change the oil before driving again? ( was serviced 4 months ago)

    So what's the process guys?

    Defiantly disconnect the battery!

I forgot.. brand new battery ruined.

I got banned for 9 months. I started the car 3-4 time's in those 9 months.

Put new battery on.. started perfect. Same oil etc.. but it Had gone through a bad winter.. so after i got it MOT'ed/taxed.. i gave it a service.

    Don't worry, it'll be fine =].

Another thing though, don't leave handbrake on, try and leave it in gear with a brick behind a wheel.

Yup handbrake off, battery off and leave it in second.

Our morris minor had been sat for 30 years when we found it. Put a new battery on it and it fired straight away. 8 months won't be a problem at all.

yeah like everyone else said don't leave the handbrake on and disconnect the battery everything else will be fine

Id spray some wd40 on the discs, obviously not too much as you won't stop but a tad. If its only going to be turned over on the drive it shouldn't be an issue. My sax had been sat for 6 months and the discs were shagged.

Personally id put it on axle stands too in order to stop the tyres cracking.

would be worth gettin a tarpaulin or cover for it.. will be rotten by the time you come to drive it again lol

    or creating flat spots

the 6er stays off the ground over winter.
battery out, and kept in a warm place.

thats about it. it takes fucking ages for fuel to go off too.

if starting it, allow it to heat up fully, a few times, fan on off, on off, on off, and allow to cool before leaving it to stop any moisture sitting in the system...or just dont start it atall. there is no need. the engine wont sieze. or, turn it over by hand

It will be in my garage so won't rot lol

If I disconnect the battery I wont bother getting the rents to start it

Didn't know about the handbrake so cheers guys

Is wd40 on the disks necessary?
I've only got 2 axle stands lol

It'll come to no harm at all.
I left my motorbike untouched for over a year until very recently, but made sure there was a fair bit of petrol in it before, just to stop too much moisture forming in the tank.

Main things would be to leave the handbrake off so the brakes dont bind onto the discs, and leave half a tank of petrol in. No need to do anything else.

Also, maybe have it started up once every couple of months, and maybe driven up and down a private driveway a couple times. Don't have it started once a week and run for a couple of mins, this may cause fuel / injector problems. Not running it for long periods wont do any damage.
