Power lag before 3000 rpm MK1 vts

  1. #1
Bought a mk1 vts on the cheap yesterday, everything seemed ok when i picked it up and drove it back. But it didnt feel any quicker than my mk2 vtr. Mainly when setting off, im revving it to 3000rpm before it moves then the revs go right down to say 1200 when ive fully lifted the clutch and then it like theres no power until 3000. It just doesnt feel right. Its not jumping out of gear or anything and theres plenty of bite on the clutch so i dont think its this. It just feels unresponsive. Does the vts engine have the power higher up is this maybe why?

Also it overheats as the fan doesnt kick in, ive not let it go anywhere near the top end of the guage but maybe it has been in the past could this be the reason the a lack of power, if the past owner has let it overheat. It doesnt smoke at all, i did check this and theres no gunk in the oil or on the filler cap, so im pretty sure the headgasket not gone.

Sorry if its hard to understand but thanks for any help!

the power on an S is almost the same as an R until you reach around 4.5k revs and then it kicks in. Or do you have a lack of power across the range?

Its just the lower end, it feels fine over about 3000. So your prob right, it just feels really underpowered low end.

You may have a problem still, I'm not the biggest guru on this stuff lol.

But if not, different gearboxes can really improve acceleration as you can keep the revs higher up more.

Also get that fan sorted, It's never good to let your engine run too hot
