Rear light, blowing fuse?!

  1. #1
I'm new here so please excuse me if I don't use the right mechanical term for things!
I have been googling my problem and came across this site You all seem to know your stuff, so hopefully you can help me.

I've got a T reg, 1.4 Saxo, and it seems to have niggling electrical problems...
The rear drivers side light wasn't working, so I changed the bulb and the fuse, and then it worked.
    Sorted.
    I thought.
When I turned the lights on the next day, it blew the fuse and the bulb.

The dash lights are on the same fuse as the rear light(s).... so I also have no dash lights - which is a pain in these darker nights.

If someone could give me any suggestions I would be really grateful.
    Thank you

    Thank you
Erm....how do I know which are the earths?

Earth wiring is generally attached to the cars bodywork, make sure its in good condition (ie no rust/corrosion/damaged wiring etc etc) and that it is attached to bare metal

    Ooo, ok thank you.
I'll have a look tomorrow in the daylight.
Having looked through all the problems and queries, this seems to be a very common problem.
I'm also beginning to think it may have something to do with the stereo too; I bought the car from a 'young man' (boy racer) and when I went to put a stereo in, the wiring was literally all over the place. Luckily for me my boyfriend was really good with car electrics/mechanics etc. He had a right ole job sorting the wiring out. But after doing that, my central locking developed a mind of it's own (had to disconnect the boot from the C.L system), which also blew the fuse for the audio system & dash lights. Since disconnecting the boot, the central locking works fine. Stereo works fine. But no dash lights or drivers side rear light...
However, I'm no longer with that loser and can't afford to spend loads of money on someone fiddling around with the wires, I just hope that it is something simples like the earths on the lights....

Only one way to find out.
Thanks for any help though, I really do appreciate it
And if there is anyone near me who has a lot of SaxoKnowHow....pop in for a cuppa and fix my lights please!
