Clicking from front

  1. #1
    Hi Guys,

I've got a clicking from the front of the car. Everytime I accelerate and de-accelerate it clicks, kinda like a metal/tinny click. It only does it when in gear and moving, when I accelerate and release it clicks/pings.

Doesn't feel like anything to do with the clutch as thats working fine.

    Any ideas?

Also my front nearside pad keeps clicking (this is a totally different click to the above btw) when I brake...anyway of stopping this also?

    Cheers for any advice

front brake pad maybe worn or a stone in your tyre.is it more of a tapping /rattling noise from the engine

so it doesnt make the noise when your not in gear.?

do me when u are not in gear it still does it or only when you press or let off the clutch

Sorry, wasn't that clear in my first post!

1.) Clicking/clunk/ping when accelerating and deaccelerating - When i'm driving along, anything from pretty much 0 to aroun 35-40 and I accelerate and let off power there is a click from the front. Have tried it when not in gear and it doesn't do it. It also does it when I reverse back. God knows where its coming from.

2.) Clicking front front brake - Just had pads and discs changed so not worn. Always clicks when I press the brake, like its moving in the caliper or somet. The click noise from this isn't anything like the noise in problem number 1 so its a seperate issue.

Thanks for all the advice anyone can give.

say you`re accelerating hard, then lift off accelerator completely, does the clunk occur pretty much imediatly?

if so sounds like an engine mount.

I don't even need to accelerate hard....I just give it a bit of extra power to move it off an let off acceleration and it clicks straight away. Its really annoying. Which mount do you think it'll be? Was wondering whether it maybe lower one by the gearbox?

Also, do you know how to stop the pads from click when braking? Its it an easy job to sort?

if it is a mount at a guess i`d say top mount(under ecu). lower one(back of gearbox near linkage gearbox) you should be able to see if it has gone or just try "rocking" the engine by hand. if it is top mount you wont be able to rock engine so will have to take mount off(with jack under engine). if it`s the one under the battery tray it usually makes a hole in the gearbox if this goes. all three mounts are easily accessable.

can`t remember what standard calipers look like so can`t really advise too much on that situation. although may be worth dropping the caliper off the disk and re-fitting. whilst off check pad wear although the disk itself will show uneven wear or scoring from a foreign object. also do the standard calipers have the "c" clips(can`t remember correct name for clip) over the top of the caliper?

Does it sound like theres a nail in ur tyre? Even if there isnt, is that the sort of sound?

Cheers for all the advice so far guys

willsy - The clicking I can hear when pressing the brake, just does it once but does it everytime I press the brake pedal.

The noise when accelerating and letting off the power is difficult to discribe, it like a click/pinging noise but its very noticable and can be heard when the window is open. If anyone's near huddersfield I could show you

Just had someone to listen at work. He thought it might be cambelt, but would this cause a loud click when coming off acceleration or accelerating in reverse?

Sorry for digging through the archives but my car has started doing this I think. I noticed my exhaust has started rattling slightly when I pull away again but theres like a small click when you change gear and when you accellerate. its quite irritating.

Whats best way to check engine mounts?

Does anyone know what the cure was or if the guy who made this thread got it sorted?
