Important! : Handbrake cable streched!

Right! My 16 year old brother owed me a favour so i told him to wash my car. He then asked if he could PUSH my car forward so the hose pipe would reach. I said yes and then he went off to wash it while i was watching tv! Now today my neighbour came up to me and said he started the bloody car, tried to reverse it even though he can't even drive a car and ended up going way to fast backwards and nearly crashing into another car but ended up yanking the handbrake up to just about stop! Now my handbrake goes all the way up and only just about works on the flat.

Can i adjust the cable or do i need a new one?

    Thanks in advance

Yeah you can adjust the cable. There's a thread on here that describes how to do it, some cars are easier than others:

could be snapped rather than stretched. If it's broken at one side, it'd go practically vertical but would still just about work (on one wheel of course)

sounds like its either stretched or snapped but id try adjusting it first if that doesnt work replace them

Yeaaah well one side works and one side doesnt. Going to have a proper look tomorrow, see if i can adjust it. If not, he will be paying for a new one!

If one side works and the other doesn't it's almost certainly snapped and not repairable. they're not huge money, and are easy enough to fit
