Ive had the car 3 days on monday i drove it 30 miles after i brought it and the gear selectors broke so i got them repaired and driving back today after collecting my car and drove the 23 miles back home theres a very high pitched squeel coming from somewhere. Its mainly when my fan is kicking in. is this a serious problem or easy fixed? It carrys on when i throttle inless i press it hard and build the revs up then it will stay silent for a bit but will continue when low revs or pulling of?

Had a similar problem recently - hazarding a bit of a guess here, but it's probably going to be one of 2 things:

Is your auxiliary belt tight? Feel it and see if there's any excess play or if it feels worn. Tighten/replace as necessary.

Secondly, and this was my problem, have any of the exhaust mounts rusted through and started rubbing? Makes a really horrible screechy noise. If you think it might be that, get under the car and have a look at all the mounts - shine a torch behind them and see if any light gets through. If it does, weld or clamp them back on, if not replace that section of the exhaust.

Although, of course without hearing it, it could be any one of a number of things

Also meant to say the exhaust thing only happened at low revs/when the engine was under load when it was the exhaust mount rubbing.

it was the auxiliary so nothing serious
