C2 vts top end

  1. #1
    I want to change the top end of my engine with the C2 vts head and just got a few questions;

    is it worth it, ie more power

    is the head gasket the same

    can some one that has done it before make a checklist of everything you got, needed and bought

    thanks

    I was researching about these new jp4s engines.. there's a big how to guide on here, Have to drill/tap holes in the Head to fit the old jp (vts) inlet.. as the c2 inlet uses firewire throttle cable or something.

    People use a mixture of jp4 engine parts and j4. Eg on the guide it says to change the belt tensioner's to j4's, so the cam belt cover's go on easier and its more 'rev happy'

    It also say's that the jp4 cams are very mild, and if you change them with GTI/VTS cams, it makes more power.

    People are using these engines, as you can buy them for roughly the same price as VTS/GTI engines, but only have 20-40k miles on them, and they use bigger valves..

    so with all the little extras shown on the guide it sounds like it would be getting an increased power output and at roughly the same price of a gti/vts engine it not too expensive. i would have thought a c2 (j4 or jp4 lol ) would be obviosally more due to its low milage....

    might be my next project

    Tryed to find the guide.. but can't seem to find it! I think i searched jp4 in google when i found it though.

    IIRC they dyno'd the jp4 engine with a pooflow system, but kept the 'catmani' and it was either 117bhp or 121bhp (jp4 engines are 110 to start with)

    Then they changed to VTS/GTI cams and a magnex system but still kept the 'catmani' (as they said if you want to use a 4-2-1 you need a custom downpipe) and it was 135bhp.. So 140bhp+ at the fly is do-able just with VTS/GTI cam's and a exhaust!
