Rear Axle Slip

Hiya all new to the website didnt know bout it until today.

So ive got a saxo VTR and its been lowered a bit , been fine in the 9 months ive had it until now, it started scraping the back tyre bout 2 weeks ago and thought nothing of it cause it has been lowered, until it got worse and decided to get it up the garage to be told the rear axle has slipped out and the wheel is rubbing the inner arch , have be told it will need to be pushed back in and need welding to keep it in place to somewhere a bit further up , they told me they need access to the boot area to find somewhere to weld it , just spent out 500 quid on repairing the engine and valves since the belt snapped, want to see what other people say worth repairing or not ?.

Slipped? slipped from where? you mean the actually mounting points?

Or you mean the arb plate has come loose?

Wouldn't want any welding on a rear beam. If it's the arb, drill old bolt out, tap n die kit a new one in.

broke from the brackets yeh and slipped out of place

Do not weld anything rear beam wise! Sounds like a bodgetastic repair suggestion. Take it somewhere that can sort it properly

You're only in Coventry, I'd happily have a look at it for you

Easily drilled out and re-tapped. This way you'll be able to access these parts..

Weldings just a quick fix. Guessing you've lowered the rear by 'notches'? if so, weld it. It'll make no difference, as the beam will be fucked soon .

    It's too low anyway!

Yeh i agree they had the axle took off and had the torsion twisted to lower it , i brought it like that, have to go at snail pace for humps and sort of scraps when i hit the diverts in the road , looking to have it highered anyway to stop all this nonesense .

oh dear oh dear oh dear, sounds like you enjoy taking your car to people who clearly have no idea whatsoever of engineering principles, car repairs or ethics. Please let Willsy or someone equally experienced have a look before this 4 wheeled catastrophe comes apart and causes mayhem. Sadly,i'm travelling south tomorrow, i will have to be extra vigilent around Coventry for stray Saxo parts blowing across the M1. Welding a beam...mmm notches mmmmm...took the axle off to lower it??? mmmmm
