hi have the same problem clunking noise as you,
striped my struts today as i was fitting new wish bones and thought i'd find what the noise was as it was getting on my tits ,

definitely the strut top bearings as mine are well fubared not to bad a job to do either

    Could be a few things.

    I had a 'clunk' so changed wishbones/droplinks/trackrod ends/dampers/springs/top mounts.

(Fitted a lowering kit, so needed to be taken apart anyway)

After all that.. still got the 'clunk' Found out it's the steering rack.

So Don't just assume that if it's a 'clunk' its the same as a 'clunk' plenty of different 'clunks'. (lol).

mine only makes the noise when there is weight on the wheels if they are both in the air there is no noise, also when the wheels are in the air and the steering rack disconnected from the struts i could feel a tight spot or a slight clunk feeling when turning the strut by hand
