Going down the Euro...

  1. #1
Right so had my VT kit on for a couple of months nearly now and the attention it is getting is great really makes people stop and stare (Stickerbomed fully). But it is starting to fade a bit and I'm nowhere near as keen on it anymore so been looking into going down the euro style route, but have a couple of questions for you kind guys to fill me in on before I get started. (if your willing to comply that is).
So the first being is what colour should I get the car resprayed? Been thinking some kind of nice candy colour ie baby blue or orange, going the complete opposite way and getting matte White....
The next question is how much work is involved in smoothing the locks and removing the door handles and making it all nice and flush?

Got a couple of other ideas but gobs keep them under wraps for now
    Cheers in advance guys.

Colour is totally your choice really, but you don't see many candy colours on Saxos to be honest... Also smoothing isn't too bad to do if you know how to use fiberglass/filler etc, sanding, its just more time than anything else, removing locks and handles will require poppers for doors/boot though

    keep it standard

will you keep a 1ltr saxo for a long time? if yes, then mod it, if no, then don't mod it.

    ^^^ this

you don't add weight on a 1.0 in the first place :/ putting like large euro wheels on it is gonna add more drag, you will regret every time while climbing hills in second gear.

if you are going to keep it, then do the conversion first.

if you aren't going to keep it then spending loads on resprays smoothing etc is not worth the effort, the car would sell for less.

This is exactly what I thought. I've got a 1ltr and as much as I'd love to change some of the body to look a little smarter, it's pointless. I'm not going to keep it long.

Firstly, do you have £4000 plus to pour into your car? If you're doing the "euro" look properly the wheels will set you back about £1K to £1.5K.

Then you've got the bodywork, smoothing of all parts, air ride suspension or hydro's, paint and aftercare will cost close to £2000 for a show winning car.

You've then got to think about interior, plush leather seats from posh Alfa Romeo's are most common and are pretty cheap, but getting the other bits done to match can be costly.

The most important thing though is originality. Take a walk around the Edition38 show stands and you'll see what I mean. Everything looks very similar. Lows and BBS RS wheels with a bit of leather. You run the risk of doing all of this to your car to find nobody really notices it because it's just like all the others.

Finally - the Euro look is probably the most expensive looks to get right. I've got mates who have put over £10K into their punto's etc. Yes they've won awards and the cars are cool. But the losses they'll encounter are huge.

Sorry mate but how is that euro?? It's lowered (not very much) on some wheels with shiny lips and a bit of smoothing. Then painted lambo orange!

So many people try to do euro now it's mainstream and it can't pull it off.

Paint is normally a neutral colour i.e browns, creams, nato green etc. Not candy blue or bright colours.

Smoothing is easy if you're handy with a welder and a bit of filler.

Have saxo's still got it in them to attract attention at a car show. Theyre like a body kitted corsa b now.
