Airbagged seat problem

  1. #1
Bought a set of airbagged half leathers last week but didn't realise until the following day that the drivers side airbag has gone off and the cover glued back in place

Does anyone know where to get hold of one (i'm guessing main dealer only) and how involved changing one is

    thanks Ads

I'd get my money back off the seller!

If the seats have been in an accident where the airbag deployed, you don't know what other damage to the structure of the seat there may be!
  3. #3
Yeah that was my thoughts but i haven't got the time to go trekking across the country to do so, there's no other damage and nothings bent/broken etc etc so i'm hoping to just change the airbag if i can

See if you can find a replacement from the scrappy? It's pretty much a matter of swap and plug in. Be careful though, unplug the battery for at least 30 minutes before replacing, these buggers contain explosives.

I'd get my money back or some of it back since the item is not as described, where did you get it from?
  5. #5
Yeah I was hoping it would be pretty much plug and play, and I've had previous experiences with airbags when I did my apprenticeship, I bloody hate working on them lol

i'd just leave it to be fair. chances it would deploy in a crash is pretty slim. infact ive never heard or seen a saxo /106 side airbag deploying. what are they even for?

They are a bit like curtain airbags they cover the window to and extent to protect you from glass i believe and also from the door.

Cheers guys think im going to pay the local scrapyards a visit on thursday and see whats around
  11. #11
don't glue the cover back with superglue as it should be able to deploy easily if (god forbid) you crash
  12. #12
They arrived with it glued up I don't know if theres anything left inside or not
  13. #13
Scrap yard as you said mate, I wouldnt be that bothered about it myself tho just make it an excuse to drive more carful
  14. #14
Thy im more concerned about getting the airbag light off (admittedly I haven't connected it up yet), but if the airbag has gone off id imagine it'll keep the warning light on and got the mot due before long

If you are putting the seats into your car listed as a 99 vtr then its irrelevant. There isnt any where for the airbags to plug in. You need to swap your seatbelt pre tensioners with the ones on your current seats and plug them in and thats it.
Unless it already has side airbags there is nowhere for the airbag units to get signal from to fire in an accident as the SRS modules are different.

to knock the light off, you could as said, use your original pretensioners, or could just poke in a 3ohm resistor in each wire under the seat to 'bypass' the pretensioners.

but im not sure if your mk1 saxo would even be compatable with side airbags

    sell me them ha

The Mk1 Saxo is NOT compatible with side airbags. All you do is swap the pre tensioners.

Thanks mate so literally just swap them over plug everything in and that should be it?

Yeah they plug into these little clips, ive got bucket seats and have plugged in the normal ones and taped them underneith the seat, if there connected the light will turn off but how well they will work is another story
  23. #23
Im not bothered about them working all that much as long as I can get the light out for the mot
  24. #24
light doesnt matter for mot unless rules have changed

    woops..
  27. #27
Yep change pretensionsers, no airbag light comes on.

On this note... I have bought some seats which are airbagged but the pretensioners are a different connectors to my old ones... Is the car still safe to drive without them connected?
