VTR electrics fault

   my vtr developed a electric fault the other day:
   symptoms:
   when i turn my headlights on nothing else electrical works this includes windows, indicators, interior light, all dash dials, cig lighter and my wipers will only work on the fastest setting when i turn my headlights off everything works as it should

   can anybody shed any light on this cos im its pissing me off im gonna take a fucking hammer to the piece of shit in a minute
   
   ive checked every single fuse
   ive disconnected battery over night

   cant put engine in yet cos i need a few parts yet like ecu, loom and other bits and bobs

   yarrrp, when my window wiper stalk decided it wanted to go balls deep in shit!
   
   i took it appart, and it was pretty messy.
   after a bit i had cleaned it up, and fixed it.
   
   sorted
   
   but my wipers wouldnt work, unless it was on the single down click, it cocked up my indies too.

   this is what my clock look like when headlights are on apart from fuel gage reads full when engine is running and charge light goes out

    another sympton when i push the cig lighter in with the keys not even in the ignition all ignitions lights come on as soon as i press the cig lighter

    Sorry mate in answer to your pm i`m stumped,unless you try changing over both stalks,you`ve checked all your connections in your fusebox(in the car & engine bay)I take it?

    im not sure was just wondering if a dodgey alternator could cause dials to fuck up its charging the battery properly though

    This might sound completely stupid and i know you've already checked fuses, have you checked to see that they are all of the correct rating?
    
    Could it be one of the relays?

    yeah ive replaced every fuse using the diagram on here
    relays and stalks are next on list

    This could be a really long shot, been looking through your progress thread and saw you've had the old sunroof leaking problem (like most of us), is there any corrosion on the interior light wiring in the roof or anything associated to it in the area, having looked through some wiring diagrams a lot of what you mentioned has a couple of items in common, this being one and also the earth point passenger side under dash behind carpet (i think, haynes lists it as Base of LH A pillar)

    also one of earths in footwell the bolt had to loosened because of it pinching the drainage pipe
