idle/ unwanted cruise control

    yo!

today coming home from work, the car decided to be an automatic.
i was thinking the throttle was sticking or something.
but im not so sure.. itl sit itself at 2000rpm and "drive itself"
then itll let off and go below 2k but as soon as i let off the throttle from being above 2k it sits back at the 2000 mark untill letting off and letting the revs fall below 2000.

then i stopped at a roundabout and the idle was pretty awful.. i mean.. 3000 - 4000rpm maybe.

had to restart the car several times and it corrected itself so i was thinking maybe its a sensor of some kind.

not a nice feeling when you dont trust your car.
ive got a long journey tonight so any info on what this might be would be highly appreciated.

    cheers,

    Regards - Reece

My VTR is doing the same thing mate. What I've found is that if I leave it running just after its been started then it settles to its normal 800-1000rpm idling speed (800 when warmed up). But a few times now its done 2500-4000 rpm idling, even coming to the point of revving itself up and down at the lights like it wants a race! Weird thing. But, something simple...got to be!!

Its going into the garage this week to check the Idle Control Valve/Sensor. May need a clean or just replacement.

Hope you find a solution...if you do...let me know!!

easy fella.. you'll never believe this, but..

i found and fixed the fault by myself
    Here's how you do it..

    pop the bonnet
    key OUT of ignition
get some WD40 (using the "fine" nozzel obv)
take the following sensors off and give them a clean and a generous spray on both parts of sensor:

the circled YELLOW ones (which are joined by lines)
    then plug them back in

now, you see the ORANGE circled one with lines out of it.
undo to screw holding it on (mine was "star driver" screw)
then do the same, rub clean with rag or tissue.
and spray the part you have just taken off (inside and out.. i shook the wd40 back out of the sensor's hole after) NOTE: I DIDN'T SPRAY IN THE HOLE IT PLUGS INTO. you are more than welcome to try it but i didn't want to lol.

then obviously screw it back on and you're done.
REMEMBER when ready to turn engine on to test.
turn the key till all lights are on.. then back off (6+ times) to reset the ICU.

Good luck mate. Hope you're successful!
    Take it easy dude!
