Do all standard saxos have sloppy gear changes?

mine knocks and judders when changing gear.

been to 2 garages, both said its normal!

either they're incompitent or they're both correct.

when put it in gear it'll more about an inch side to side- thats normal mate. there are kits to sort this porblem out tho.

kam racing gear linkages are needed

on my old vts, i had a new recon gearbox fitted and all new genuine linkages and pins, was still crap tbh. Ive never driven a saxo with a tight gear linkage with oem components and ive probably driven in the region of over 100 different saxos at work

qiuckshift is needed for tight gearchanges also solid engine mounts
saxo gearchange was shit when they were new tbh

how easy is it to change engine mounts? think its that thats causing the knocking.

Having owned two Saxo's and a GTI, gear changes have never been tight in my experience

I had a Renault Twingo for a few years and the gear changes were very tight in that, although it was a new car so to be expected

what do people mean when they say tight?

when i change gear it sort of knocks and makes me go forward in my seat.

Pretty easy do 1 at a time supporting the engine with a solid block of wood on a trolley jack on level ground.

As Steve says, easy enough to change them one at a time.

Usually the ECU mount which has problems on the Saxo, the bolt on mine sheared and caused a massive vibration.

is it best to change them all?

also when im stationary and put on some revs, the engine dips down back left ( looking at engine bay from front of car ) that obviously an engine mount? would this be causing the knocking when changing gear?

Only if they are broken or you planto uprate them

The engine should move slightly when revving but not much and if its moving back left, it could mean the ECU engine mount has broken.

The mount is in two parts, held together by a long screw if I remember rightly.

Have the car on level ground, stick a jack under the sump (use a block of wood) to support the engine and unbold the mount to see if it's broken.

only have the jack that came with the car, would this be substantial?

Also replace the split pin that will help to tighten up the slack and there will get rid of the side to side movement of the gearstick in gear. Makes it soo much nicer and cost about 38p from citroen.
