Heated Seats?

  1. #1
With winter looming Im toying with the idea of putting heated seats in my sax both for passenger and driver. With the switches up where the hazard switch is.

Anyone done this before, or does anyone know how easy it is to remove the fabric from the seat both seat and back?

Also while im here, wheres a good place to find an ignition dependant 12v supply?

    Cheers

But easy to take fabric of you need to take the hog rings off there like clamps . To put back you need hog rings and hog ring pliers

And I bet you ask what's hog rings lol and were do I get them

can buy the pads pretty cheap on e-bay too.Clicky!! take the cig lighter plug from the end and hard wire it up to your switches via a in line fuse and your sorted.

But wassy what are hog rings and where do i get them from?
I jokes but I really am a cunt.

you can buy the heated seat inserts from ebay which plug into the cigarette lighter. ive always thought they would cause a bulge in the seat/reduce seat comfort but im not sure of this

The kits iv been looking at are inserts that go under the material.

After doing some digging, ie asking previous buyers, its a quality kit and there are a variety of configurations of switches. Theres also a sensor that detects if someone is sitting on the seat. You can also cut the inserts to size, within reason, so that any obvious "bulge is minimised".

Im going for a proper install, not just a plug 'n' play type thing.

    Cheers for the replys

Could of told us you had the kit in mind!!!

But any way's if its any decent kit it should come with a relay that you supply a switched live to rather than tapping into another switched live. If it does just use the switched live that your radio uses will do the job fine. If the kit doesn't come with a relay I would suggest buying one from e-bay or maplin's its a safer and better way to do it as the pads will use quite a lot of power.

I beleive it comes with a relay and a'hin. I just need to connect it to some power in such a way it wont drain the battery.

If it has a relay then the power wont be used unless you supply a 12v feed to the relay. You just need a 12v feed from the battery / fuse box to the relay then a switched 12v feed to the relay to switch them on and off. If you use a ignition switched 12v switch feed is up to you.

Just make sure the 12v feed is fused or you could set your arse on fire.

Just use underfloor heating like Devimat. That will keep you warm!

    OK thanks awbuddy.

New problem now; I need to put a hole through two of the artificial buttons (where the hazard switch is) aprox 18-19mm in diameter for the switches. Whats the best method, I worry that getting a drill bit that big will not only cost somewhat but will probably crack the plastic. Verdict?
