    BTW aint a saxo ........ is a 1.3 fiesta mk4 (gfs )
as title says really my girlfriends car is not starting to sound very good , it seems as if its struggling for air and revs up and down ?? and also when she clutches it, the revs seems to go up and down ? with a rough tick over :/ , engine sounds like its going humming up and down ? is a funny strange noise ?

i know il prob find more info on the fiestas website but cant be anything that anyone on here should know what i could try to do to resolve this ? thanks Adam

Idle control valve (it normally is on a Saxo)

Change the air filter, and probably a good service with a new set of plugs.

hey thanks for the replys, will look at replacing the airfilter soon as, il have to check a few plugs in that case and give them a clean up, if its still faulty then maybe a diagnostics test i reckon, if they can have one of them on a fiesta (s) reg :/ , how would i go about checking the vacum pipes ?

    cheers Adam

Check vacuum pipe's on inlet manifold, also clean the throttle body(throttle flap and port), carbon build up can cause the rev's to 'hunt' as you described

the gf has always said lately it sounds like its sucking in air from somewhere i just said it was the airfilter noise (standard BTW ) mmm wonder if thats to do with it then, as its been like that from i can remember when it started playing up , im never really in the gfs car so aint looked into it much, but when i got in it the other day it didnt sound healthy atall cheers mate il check the hoses tomoz

you can check for a leak on the vacuum pipes by spraying carb cleaner on the joins of the pipes around the inlet, the revs will change if you find a leak or if its a bad leak may even cut out.

Take the air filter pipe off & check you haven`t got a leaf stuck in there.

hey guys ive checked the pipes and sprayed them, but nothing looks like its got a crack in the pipes or changed in the car attall the hunting is still there , the car idles ok but soon as you touch the throttle and let off it will hunt for about 10seconds then goes back to normal ? could the be a blockage in the pipes ?

    thanks Adam

Adam I used to own one of these.

Look at the engine, you'll see a little module with two bolts holding it on. Remove it and spray wd-40 or the like into the valve. This is the idle control valve and is a really common problem on these. If that doesn't work you might need a new one. (Couple of quid from a scrappy)

This will have the Endura-e engine which is a horrible tappy little fucker. You can adjust the tappets to quiet them down a bit but it's just how they are.

Btw if you whack an aftermarket air filter on these they sound the nuts haha

    Edit:

This is what you're removing and spraying (it'll be much dirtier on her car):

ahh i see- i did take that off and cleaned it up (didnt know if it was the icv or not lol) car seems to run abit smoother but still hunting :/ may be completly knackered? might go to the breakers and see if i can get one, but doesnt hunt as much but then it will :s, the car will tick over nicely then ya press the throttle and let go it will hunt for 10seconds then goes back to normal bloody cars lol

Hmm seems odd, I think I replaced mine eventually which sorted It but it might be something stupid like a blocked breather. If not take it for a check up at a trusted garage. A dodgy dealer could come up with a wealth of crap to get you paying over the odds.

cheers for the reply yeah il go breakers in the week, purchase a few sensors like the silver one you pointed out, put them on and see how it is, if still the same il just drop it off at the garage that usually does jobs on my car- did pop there the other week but he had so many cars at his workshop id be waiting for hours lol, but think thats what il have to do i reckon , thanks mate
