is this a good price for downpipe fitted ?

My regular mechanic quoted me £130 to supply and fit me a cat for my mk2 VTR (cats near manifold).
Its an approved one and will include the fitting kit and what not.

Its either do that, or I phone local scrappies. But what I wanted to know is..... Will a second hand cat / downpipe fit straight on or will I need anything extra to get it on my car ? like new gaskets and stuff.

TBH, if I can find a mint second hand one for now id prefer to do that. Ive seen a guy on ebay local to me breaking a saxo vtr so I was going to call him about it.

it's a bit expensive depending on what sort of cat he puts on, do you get a lambda sensor and fitting kit with it or just a cat? Then it's 4 nuts on one side, 2 nuts on the other side + ring with some exhaust paste. 15 minutes (tops) job really.

Always do the ring + paste or 9 / 10 chances it will blow.

garages dont charge for 15minutes though, probably a minimum of 30mins or an hour

yeah true, always charging the odd 50 quid. Mine won't as I known the guy for years, slip him at tenner or so and then I know he makes a bit of a profit on parts.

Always better to do your self if you can, exhaust aren't rocket science to change.

He said its definately an approved cat and yes that comes with a fitting kit ! ( i did mention in first post ) However i dont think ill get the lambda sensor. I think its just fitting kit and cat / downpipe.

when it's down, don't rag it so the ceramic settles inside. I have seen people burning as much as 4 cats in a year.

Ive had a look at prices and they back up what my mechanics saying..... He rekons that they're all around the £100 price so I think £30 quid to fit is not too bad. Obviously he might have his own little discount from the part but tbh, Ive gone for the cheaper " get someone else to fit " option before and its not worked out.

At least if he supplies and fits i have somewhere to go back to if it fucks up.
