Weight in rear of car

  1. #1
Whenever there's a bit of weight in the back of my car e.g, 2 people, the car handles completely differently. Brakes just don't seem to be there, and the acceleration is greatly decreased.

Is this just common of saxos, or something wrong?

it will handle differently as saxos are quiet light at the back, if your not used to having passangers at the back it will feel unusual, but as for the brakes the compensator valve should increase the rear braking effort as more weight is loaded into the back of the car, if th rear brakes are crap when the rear is loaded up then maybe this is seized as most of them are, its located near the n/s/r side of the axle and body

its normal just as a example say you weigh 12stone then you add two people at 12stone each thats a extra 24stone in a little saxo 36stone all together thats guna take some pulling power and stopping power,as said check the brake bias valve isnt seized becarful not to cause leaks un seizing it had this happen on a caddy van at work lol

yeah you've just increased the weight by some 15-20 % depending on how fat your mates are.

how should the valve move? dont want to go prodding at it or pushing it and break it.

    cheers for the replies

You won't have a bias valve if you have drum brake's, they are only used on disc brake beam's

my vtr is terribly slow with 3 people in the back

brakes obviously ares as good compared to an empty car either becuase of the load, but theyre still not dangerously crap? how bad exactly are your brakes?

really bad, seems to take twice as longer to stop.

Mine is the same mate, just not quick cars and have poor breaks I supose but at like 7k brand new its to be expected

Its just the fact that the car is light, two people add a large percentage on top high up in the car and you havent exactly got a high torque engine so it struggles more than a 3.0 v6
