Important! : Cambelt... How tight?

    As above, fitted a continental kit to my gti today and it's whining.

    How tight exactly does it need to be?

    It's tight but I wouldn't say too tight, maybe it is though?

    Or fan belt too tight too?

    Alternator belt rule is tighten till half a turn on the belt itself.

    Cambelt, if its whining then you need to loosen it a tad, or the tensioner will not like being in the engine bay and the bolt (which will sheer off) will be stuck in the block.

    Loosened a touch and it's stopped, hopefully not too loose now :/

    conti belt? fitted a few in the past to 16v and when tensioned as i would a gates belt,they have whined.in fact i can't really recommend them as iirc it was a conti belt that gave me and dom trouble

    Ah right that's odd, I've used them before no trouble at all.

    It's running good and not whining as it is just hoping it isn't too loose that's all, don't fancy any slipped teeth

    was going to say loosen it a tad, or you could end up with an engine like the one mandyslover bought off me
