Important! : Very tappy..

  1. #1
Sod the cambelt and sealed rockers today on my gti and now it's very tappy, noticeably.

Ive checked oil etc but any suggestions? Doesn't seem noticeably down on power..

    Cheers

tappets may just have to big a gap between tappet springs and that ?
does it do it all th time or just idle and nuetral?
  3. #3
Never did it before and it's obly started tonight, dOes it all the time no matter the revs, unless it's a misfire but doesn't seem down on power
  4. #4
has the engine been stood a while?
  5. #5
misfire wouldnt relly tap and you would notice th difference in power a bit .
could be th big end or main bearings startin to go but wouldnt like to say.
not sure if th tappets are adjustable on th car you have but i know a few cars are adjustable

Pretty sure they're not adjustable on the 16v ones.

Nope it's a daily driver, done avout 6k in 2 months

    It's doing It again...

Re-timed today and still as bad.
    Really can't work it out.
    Any ideas?

i was gonna mention checking the timing and it sounds like its slightly out but of course you have checking this.

How many miles have you done since its been done? has the noise changed any? I got told if you use a thicker oil it can ease them up but only ever did this in a bmw
