engine rattling?

   Hey guys,
   
   My cars been making a wierd noise recently it sounds like rattling in the engine I can't quite figure out what it is. It happens when the car reaches about 4K revs. It doesn't make the noise on idle, I spoke to a guy he said it could be bigends but I thought you'd be able to hear that constantly not just when it revs up. There is no loss of power it still performs the same its just an annoying noise which kinda sounds like something is loose. I could try to record the noise if needed? Another mechanic has told me its not big ends but failed to tell me what it was.

   big ends are more of a rumbling noise. check your heat sheilds aren't loose.

   What heat shields are there? I don't have any on top of my engine out pipe

   might be a dying alternator or alternator tensioner pully
   
   happened on my wheesly diesly sounded like the engine was fcuked

   It could be that, my alternator does sound dry... It seems to sound like its hissing... I sure hope its that and nothing deeper...

   nice and easy to find out whip the alternator belt of mine really did sound like it was bottom
   end had gone cant tell you how relived i was that it was just the alternator
