Starter button, Connecting Ipods + General Dash - Opinions it a few things.

My centre console is a mess. So Im starting again

I had the starter button up in the dummy button, eh, area? But as much as I loved it there (not really) it started to get cluttered when I mounted an ipod dock, a thermometer and now with heated seat switches. So the starter button either has to come out or get moved somewhere else. But where? Iv decided to go for a more tidy look.

Im dead cert on taking my current (non official transmitter) ipod mount out as It looks terrible. Maybe getting ipod compatable stereo, grabbing my dads old Alpine one as I am broke, in which case Ill just run the cable down to the centre console cubby hole and not bother with a mount. It will also mean Ill have 3 clocks on the dash, 4 including the ipod. . What do you lot do with your ipod?

On another note. If anybody has a mk2 with a dud heater control bulb, 4 bright white leds in its place works very well with no resistors.

Currently their all my queries, though Ill probably add to them in a short while

I also have a tonne of white LEDs. Any cool ideas of how to use them? That dont look cheap or typical or whatehaveyou

ive seen people mount the engine start button in the cig lighter socket.

Ill take some tomorrow in when theres decent light. Its in peices atm as Im waiting for some heated seat switches and an original centre console peice.

Additional info: I painted the centre console and vents red ages ago (to match the exterior, now going back to stock.

What type of LEDs work with the heater controls?
Would these be the ones, half my heater control lights dont work

Theres only one bulb for the heater controls. What I did was solder 4 leds in series but very close to each other so they would fit in the same hole snuggly. And the bulb holder thing is almaost as if it was made to be used for this as it has two small prongs that stick out that are perfect for connecting wires to.

Pretty sure these are the leds I used, cant be absolutely sure though as it was ages ago I got them. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2207863497...84.m1438.l2649

THis was an earlier version. I since added a 4th LED and drilled the hole a little bigger so they would fit right in there. http://flic.kr/p/aATxn

And the plug end, very easy to connect to the socket. http://flic.kr/p/aAWfgy

And photos of the rest of the dash as is.

Note: Ipod dock is hanging by a wire and you cant see it. Was mounted just above and to the left of the head unit. And the starter button is the same, except was mounted dead centre in the button array.

Oh and your link didnt work.

    Cheers

If youre looking to move your starter button, how about one of these..

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TYPE-VR-PU...ht_2391wt_1396

..was looking at them the other day, reckon it would be quite cool but not sure how long it would last, that flap don't look too sturdy lol

Is the blower speed knob suppose to be illuminated then? Mine aint!
  10. #10
Sorry about the broken link, I think I get the idea now, cheers mate.
Was also wondering the same question as Nick above? mine doesn't light up either...
  11. #11
Hope not, mine never has. And if you prize it off with a flat head screw driver theres nothing to see except the spindle.

The blower spindle doesnt light up :| it is just painted on, the heat control does with just a single led

this might not be any help but instead of using a dock or an aux lead, i use an iTrip, tune it to like 87.9 (a stsation with no radio or anything) tune ya itrip into that and it plays the tunes through the radio so no need for leads or anything xx

Why not mount the starter button under the ignition column?
  18. #18
Is it difficult to fit a starter button ?
  19. #19
surely a starter button makes things harder than just continuing with a key movement to start the car

it looks good though an aint that half of what this is all about?
