Attaching Police Lights to Cig lighter?

   hey ppl,
   
   Yesterday i fitted police lights to my mates car. I attached the wires to the orange and brown wire on the cig lighter connection, However when my mate has the lights on and puts the full beam on the police lights go out? and the cig lighter light cums on when the full beam is on. Have i wired the lights to the wrong wires? However my mate has wired this neons on this vtr to the same connections with no problems? The only problem that I can think of is that there is not enough voltage going to the police light as i wired them to the light around the cig lighter?
   
   I connected the police light using two T junctions so that the cig lighter can be used if the police lights are no on. I have thought of wiring them to the battery but the control box need to be instide for obvious reasons.

   ok you have wired them up wrong, the earth wire is not the brown wire as you would think this is teh feed for the cig lighter light that comes on with the headlights, you need to wire the earth to the other wire not the middle one as this is the 12v constant feed but the other wire, yellow i think.
   
   basicly the reason its going out is because when u turn the lights on its sending a feed up the brown wire to turn the cig lighter light on which is tehn breakign your circuit.

   yeh i seem to recall using the red (i think) and yellow wire for my neons
   
   i used the feed into the lights on the heating display though

   They make your headlights and fogs flash alternatively like copper vans do. Only about 15 quid i think and obviously illigal. Meant to be used to scare the shi* out of your mate if you pull up behind them etc apparently.

    yes and yes to both querys i think impersonating a copper can lead to 3 years in prison so tell your mate unless he doesn't mind bigger boys to take them off. Otherwise tell him to keep his soap on a rope lol

    and they are very good btw lol but totally illegal to the public
    so have a look on ebay
    
    they come in a number of different colours so if there not blue then impersonating a police officer isnt an issue.

    Too late there already on the list but there not the worst thing on there I haven't added the police sirens but will do later with another load of tat I've found.

    They are illigal no matter what colour they are as above ^^. Out of interest what are u actually using them for off road lol? An off road police chase?

    well if u flash ur headlights(white), ur not going to get pulled by the police for impersonating them are you?
    
    and i use them off road for videos and pictures etc. as u can get some good shots with them

    No but these work by flashing alternate headlights on and off which is what the cops have on theirs, thats why they are illigal. But fair enough

    It is illegal to have any form of flashing beacon or siren! on your car unless you are a registered vehicle!... when doing stage events all our recovery and radio crews have to put bin bags on them until they are on stage
