106 gti not firing

   tried to start my friends 106 gti but battery was flat so swapped batterys and the fuel pump primes all the dash lights exept the usual airbag car just spins on starter motor untill battery starts dyeing again. doesnt even fire once what things could cause this

   So you can hear the starter motor spinning but the engine doesn't fire?
   
   Is the starter motor fitted correctly? the flywheel could be fucked

   Well you need to start checking things, is it injecting? is it sparking? find out that then go from there
