Gutting a ph2 cat conv

  1. #1
I have seen someone on here who has gutted a standard ph2 (in manifold) cat and retained the cast iron manifold. Would this give an increase in power or just a shed load of noise?
As im toying with getting a cat from a scrap saxo for an experiment.

    both i dare say.

    cheap decat lol.

Im aware that the cast iron manifold in still restrictive, just looking at an experiment more than anything else?
  4. #4
    well, what kind of experiment?
  5. #5
to see if it gives any gains?

i nocked my cat out on my 106 quicksilver few years ago did make a little power gain and more noise just ran terrible on cold mornings till it was warm and drank more fuel lol defo felt a slight improvment was it worth it? nah lol

just buy a mk1 manifold and downpipe as it will cost the same and you'll have a decat my friend

as said above, cheapest way to de-cat a mk2. Just be aware that it does come close to the plastic oil filter so i'd advise heat wrap or some king of heat shield on the filter.

you could always drop the oil filter and have a metal screw in one only problem is it involves drilling and tapping the block ,

but also a ph1 mani is shorter than a ph2 mani underneath were it connectes to the middle pipe on the exhaust

Knocking the middle out of ur cat will increase bhp, noticeable particularly in the mid range when overtaking etc. it will alter the noise too and on some vehicles it can create that awful rasping sound, others it's like music, depends on the exhaust design! Also bear in mind you will have to put your original back on when it's MOT time!
