Important! : High gloss paint finish

  1. #1
Right this is probably the most pointless thread every but yeah. But basically I have re sprayed my bump strips before and they never ever seem to end up like this and this is how I want them to look:

And these are my bump strips:

Yeah I know the camera quality is different on each one but this is the only picture I have after I did my bump strips gloss black and even looking at them in the flesh they're nothing compared to the first image

So to cut a long story short I just want to know the best way to go out spraying them like the orders to do everything to end up with this amazing finish? Surely there must be a thread of some kind too?

ive asked my cousin in the past about this and he said to use white spirits when preppin it? perhaps a fine sandpaper like wet and dry to smooth it out as the bumstrips r slightly corrigated? god knows if that will help :/ xx
  3. #3
I use really fine wet and dry as it is like and they just never seem that glossy :/ some people say to sand inbetween primer coats but never tried it. What you mean by use white spirits when prepping?

did you get rid of the texture before you sprayed them??
if not, then thats what you'll need to do - just sand them down

Basically, sand them down with a medium/fine sandpaper, then move down through different courses of wet and dry (getting finer) Then use plastic primer, then filler primer.
Next wet and dry again, filler primer again and continue (with about 600 grade wet and dry) until completely smooth
Next apply your paint (gloss black)
if necessary, wet and dry to get rid of any imperfections then continue with colour coats
    Then lastly, apply the lacquer

That should help get the smooth, shiny, wet look that the first pic had, however it has probably been done professionally

    Hope that helps

    KelsVTS you have a PM.

You need to paint your bump strips with gloss black and then laquer to get shine.

Yeah i've done that but i just dont get the same finish lol
  22. #22
Lots of laquer matey. Then 2500 grit wet&dry then polish the feck outta it.
  23. #23
so the 2500 wet&dry grit after the lacquer?
  24. #24
Yes. make sure the laquer has dried properly. Leaving it over night at room temp is probably your best bet at home.
