oil temperature needle keeps going to the max point on the gauge, can anyone tell me my problem please?

its on a mk1 vts if that matters

Possibly a faulty sensor which I think i`m right in saying is on the sump mate.

Sounds like a oil sensor. Usually located on th front off the block

iv just thought, im running a water cooled system (not sure if its on all vts's) and i know i have an airlock as my water temp is a little high still .
would this cause the oil temp to be high too?

Water cooled system? All saxo's are water cooled.

If you mean the water / oil heat exchange around the filter then no I cant see it being the problem.
Best bet is to bleed the cooling system and give the engine a full service at the same time as changing the sensor on the block. But if your oil is over heating it needs changing, when it becomes too hot the lubrication properties are pretty much zero.

yeah thats what i meant round the filter lol.
its had all new gearbox/engine oil's, spark plugs, oil filter etc as the engine has just been re-built.
the sensor, is it the one at front of block just above the oil filter?

I had this issue...my exhaust manifold damaged the sensor as its rather close.
